Module description

This module offers you the opportunity to engage with leading international intellectual property scholars and experts who will lead seminars on current critical issues in international and comparative intellectual property law. You will engage with a rich variety of historical, theoretical and political perspectives that enable critical reflection on the current system of international intellectual property law and its engagement with the world in which we live. The module offers you an unrivalled opportunity to understand, analyse and critique the impact of intellectual property law on a range of legal, political, economic and cultural spheres.

Learning objectives

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • understand the process of international and comparative intellectual law-making in historical, political, economic and cultural perspective
  • analyse a range of theoretical perspectives that address the political economy of international, supranational and national intellectual property systems
  • locate significant points of intersection between international intellectual property law and other areas of international and national law-making
  • critique the geo-political, economic and cultural impact of intellectual property regimes.
