Module description

Family law is a dynamic subject. In this course you will achieve not only a sound knowledge of the legal framework governing the family but also a good grasp of the context in which the legal questions arise. We will focus on what happens in practice as well as what should happen in theory. You will need to draw on other areas of law, for example, criminal law, and other disciplines, for example, social policy.

Indicative module content

  • Adult relations: the family, marriage and civil partnership, divorce and dissolution, financial consequences of relationship breakdown and domestic violence.
  • Child law: children’s welfare, parental responsibility, residence and contact disputes, service provision, child abuse, education.
