International Organisations

Overview

  • Credit value: 30 credits at Level 4

Module description

Questions about why international organisations have been created and the roles they are meant to play in the international system appear particularly relevant to any consideration of how the contemporary international system functions. In light of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and perceived trends of unilateralism, crucial questions are now being asked. Has the UN been sidelined in the search for international security? Is multilateralism dead?

This course aims to develop an analytical framework to examine the internal workings of a range of organisations and assess their impact on international relations.
