Overview

  • Credit value: 30 credits at Level 6
  • Convenor: Dr Mari-Paz Balibrea Enriquez
  • Prerequisites: CEFR C1 or equivalent, but if you have performed at the higher levels of achievement you can be taken to have reached CEFR C2 level
  • Assessment: two pieces of coursework (10%); a project consisting of a 250-300-word proposal and an annotated 600-700-word bibliography (5%) and a 2000-word essay (25%); producing a radio programme as part of a group (10% group mark; 20% individual mark); a two-hour written in-class examination (30%).

Module description

This 24-week module, leading to CEFR stage C1 (Advanced) C2 (degree level)*, aims to consolidate your fluency and accuracy of language use, both in speaking and writing.

It introduces more advanced translation skills for which journalistic and literary texts are employed. It takes you up to a degree level of ability. You will consolidate your academic writing in the language by producing a range of essays based on the textual analysis of films and fictional and non-fictional texts, including a research project.

You will improve your oral-aural skills through the completion of a radio project and use of authentic texts, films, TV and radio programmes and discussions and debates in class.
