Overview

  • Credit value: 30 credits at Level 6

  • Prerequisites: language skills equivalent to A-level plus two years, or CEFR* B2+
  • Assessment: two pieces of coursework (10%), a project (30%), an oral assessment (30%) and an in-class written assessment (30%)

Module description

This 24-week module is taught at CEFR* C1 (Advanced)/C2 (degree level) level. It will give you advanced listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in French, as well as improving your pronunciation and your cultural competence.

You will have the opportunity to consolidate your oral and written skills, focusing on appropriateness and accuracy, by:

  • analysing a variety of authentic texts, documents and audiovisual materials
  • producing original work in French
  • making use of off-air TV recordings and the internet.

Each 2.5-hour class will be conducted in French from day one.

Learning objectives

By the end of this module, you will have a high level of competence in French and be able to:

  • understand with ease virtually everything you hear or read in French
  • summarise information from different spoken and written sources
  • reconstruct arguments and accounts in a coherent presentation
  • express yourself spontaneously, fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning, even in more complex situations.
