You will be taught how to use both traditional and modern forms to compose your own poems. A vibrant combination of interactive lectures and workshops will spark your inspiration and you will learn how to edit your work in a supportive and encouraging learning environment.

The Introduction to Writing Poetry course will cover key concepts such as:

  • the line break
  • the sonnet
  • the villanelle
  • ghazal
  • prose poetry
  • the cut-up technique
  • ekphrasis.

Whether you are a beginner in writing poetry or a professional looking to further refine your craft, the Introduction to Writing Poetry course will build your knowledge and practice to support your goals. Each session will cover a different aspect of the craft of poetry, and by the end of the course you should feel more confident in composing your own work.
