Overview

The professional football industry is one of the most commercially dynamic sectors in the sport media entertainment marketplace. Within the industry, professional football clubs are the key engines of revenue generation and act as primary players.

This Football Management and Finance short course is designed both to enhance the financial expertise of football professionals keen to discover more about the economic and financial aspect of the industry and to provide crucial knowledge to those willing to enter the football industry for the first time. Throughout the nine sessions of this short course, we analyse the key factors that drive the economic success of a professional football club, encompassing areas such as:

  • media broadcasting
  • match-day attendance
  • commercial ventures
  • player development and trading.

We will examine the latest trends at global level too, such as valuation of football clubs, mergers and acquisitions, digitalisation and women's football. We also invite industry leaders as guest speakers on this course to analyse how best-practice business models are adopted by clubs and league competitions to drive these revenue streams. Critically, using real-life case studies, we will consider how club business models can be optimised, emphasising key trends and future outlook.

At the end of the course there will be a two-hour examination (100%) assessment.
