Overview

Collections management lies at the heart of museum practice today. On this short intensive course you will be introduced to its core principles, including:

  • acquisition
  • registration
  • cataloguing
  • basic object care
  • storage
  • access.

Our Collections Management course takes place in person over a five-day period in the spring term: you will engage in classroom learning each morning followed by visits to a range of museum and gallery collections across London in the afternoon. You will have the opportunity to meet a range of professional registrars and collections managers and to critically reflect upon some of the key challenges facing the profession today.

This postgraduate-level course is designed as an introduction to the profession and is ideal if you are considering pursuing a career in museum collections management or registration practices. If you are already working in the sector and are looking to advance your career by specialising in the field, this course can count towards your Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Assessment of this course consists of an assignment in which you will document a bequest according to accredited museum standard and include your reflective critique on this process.
