Dispute Bulletin No. 9

Extraordinary General Meeting Wed 11 April, 1.00 – 2.30 pm, MAL B36

There will be a general meeting Wed 11 April to discuss the pensions dispute and to assist colleagues in deciding which way to vote in the online ballot (and if you have not received a link to the online ballot, please contact UCU HQ). That will be the only item of business, so do try and come along.

In the meantime here are several links that contain useful discussions of the issues:

USS Briefs produced by Felicity Callard (Birkbeck) and others on a range of issues and including documents arguing for rejection of the latest offer (by Grady and Davis).

  1. Felicity Callard on deep roots of attempts to shift pensions from DB to DC
  2. Jo Grady on dynamics of industrial relations and the USS strike
  3. John Holmwood & Gurminder K Bhambra on pensions in relation to HE marketization
  4. Claire Marris on why pension cuts will not be spread equally
  5. Gail Davies on the role of consultancies in the USS dispute
  6. Sam Davis on why which way to vote on the latest UUK proposal should be an easy decision

A document by two Glasgow academics arguing for acceptance of the latest offer.

A document from Cambridge UCU that is equivocal and also offers an account of last week’s branch briefing.
