    • If you are a part-time student studying modules worth 60 or 90 credits towards a Certificate of Higher Education in one year, you may be eligible for financial support.

  • How will I be taught and assessed?

    • Lectures, discussion and independent study. Assessment is 100 per cent coursework; this may include essays, presentations and timed in-class assessments.

      Please note that modules need a minimum number of students to run; classes that do not enrol the minimum number may be cancelled at short notice before the class starts.

  • How to enrol

    • ME (modular enrolment): enrol for individual modules.

What will I be studying?

To gain the Certificate of Higher Education, you must successfully complete the following four modules, worth a total of 120 credit points, normally in order: 

  • Understanding Crime  
  • The Sociology of Crime and Deviance
  • The Psychology of Criminal Behaviour
  • The Criminal Justice Process.

What can I go on to do?

Students awarded the Certificate of Higher Education may apply for admission to the first year of Birkbeck's LLB programmes or can use credits towards other Birkbeck programmes, such as the BSc Social Science.
