Spanish 1

Learn how to speak and understand Spanish from beginner level. You will discover the different varieties of Peninsular and Latin American Spanish and the diversity of cultures in the Spanish-speaking world. You can take Spanish 1 as a short course, or as part of the Certificate of Higher Education in Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies (Spanish or Portuguese) or a BA degree.

We offer Spanish language courses from beginner to advanced levels:

Spanish 1 is also offered in intensive format with two classes a week on a Friday, 6pm-9pm, and a Saturday 3pm-6pm, commencing on Friday 6 October 2017. To take the intensive format, just enrol on the Friday 6 October 2017 class below (code: ARIB106S4ZAA). 

Designed for complete beginners of Spanish, this 29-week course, leading to CEFR A2 (Elementary)/GCSE level*, uses textbooks ELE Actual: Curso de Español para Extranjeros (in 4 parts: A1 and A2 Libro del Alumno and A1 and A2 Cuarderno de Ejercicios), supported by a wide range of other materials. You will learn to interact with native speakers at a basic level in a range of everyday situations, such as speaking about yourself and your family, your home, your home town, your everyday routine, likes and dislikes, future and past events. You will gain a basic knowledge of a range of grammatical structures, including different tenses, and will acquire enough vocabulary to 'survive' and deal with predictable and/or specific information in simple everyday situations. You will learn to listen for general and specific information in everyday contexts and acquire basic skills in reading and writing. You will also gain some awareness of everyday life and the diversity of cultures in the Spanish-speaking world and will develop independent learning skills through the use of online resources.

This Short Course can be taken as a stand-alone course or it may be available as part of a Certificate of Higher Education.
