Departments

The School of Science's three departments have been recognised for their educational and research excellence. Psychological Sciences were rated 5th nationally, Earth and Planetary Sciences were rated 6th and Biological Sciences were rated 11th (the last two being joint submissions with UCL) in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF).

The School is led by the Executive Dean, Professor Nicholas Keep and the School Executive Board. The School Manager is Rabinder Bery.

Birkbeck will receive €2.8 million, of a total grant of €115 million, to lead on research relating to infants in trials which will increase understanding of autism and help develop new therapies.

Professor Ted Melhuish of the Department of Psychological Sciences presented evidence to MPs on the Education Committee.

A £100,000 award from Santander will fund two significant projects to promote, develop and understand entrepreneurship.
