How Will My Degree be Classified?
For undergraduate honours degrees, you will have taken modules at three levels in your four years; the levels are defined by the national Framework for Higher Education Qualifications (http://www.qaa.ac.uk/academicinfrastructure/FHEQ/default.asp). Modules on undergraduate degrees will be at levels 4, 5 or 6. To gain an honours degree you will need to pass modules at all levels; the classification will be based on your performance at levels 5 and 6. Detailed information can be found at http://www.bbk.ac.uk/reg/regs/cas/conferment/honoursclass
For other programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, classification is usually based on your average mark; for some programmes (including Masters programmes) an average mark of 60-70 will mean that an award of a “merit” will be achieved, and an average mark of 70 or above will mean that a “distinction” will be achieved. Further details can be found in the regulations on the section on conferment of awards, http://www.bbk.ac.uk/reg/regs/cas/conferment
