'Legs-it' and the media coverage of women in politics

An interview with Gender and Politics PhD student Jessica Smith on BBC Radio Wales

Birkbeck Gender and Politics PhD candidate Jessica Smith was interviewed on BBC Radio Wales in response to a newspaper front page focusing on Theresa May's and Nicola Sturgeon's legs.

The Prime Minister and First Minister were meeting to discuss Brexit and a second Scottish referendum.

"It has reduced the meeting of two of the most powerful leaders of the UK ... to a handbags-at-dawn style 1970s sexism," Jessica says in the interview.

Listen to the interview or from 1:50:50 on the BBC iPlayer Radio website.
