Dr Edwin Bacon’s research featured on Russian TV
Edwin Bacon’s research on former Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev received surprising publicity in early November. On the 30th anniversary of Brezhnev’s death, one of Russia’s leading daily current affairs programmes, Postskriptum, broadcast a 15 minute item, which featured Dr Bacon’s book ‘Brezhnev Reconsidered’ (2002), as this screenshot illustrates.
Dr Bacon, Reader in Comparative Politics in Birkbeck’s Department of Politics, said:
“It was only by chance that I discovered this reference to my book on a popular prime-time Russian TV programme. Apart from the fact that the programme wrongly referred to me as an American, and used a quote which I cannot find anywhere in the book, I was delighted that millions of viewers got to hear about my research.”
