Six subjects at Birkbeck rank in top 200 worldwide

The College’s strong international profile was also demonstrated in the 2020 QS World University Rankings.

Six subjects at the College have ranked in the top 200 worldwide in the 2020 QS World University Rankings, showcasing Birkbeck’s teaching and research excellence across a range of academic disciplines. Philosophy was ranked in the top 100 worldwide; Communications and Media, and English, were ranked in the top 150; and Arts and Humanities, History and Psychology in the top 200. This compares to Birkbeck having four subjects within the top 200 worldwide in last year’s rankings, with two more subjects, Communications and Media, and Arts and Humanities, entering the top 200 this year.

Birkbeck was placed at 64th in the world and in the top 25 UK institutions for attracting international students, and 121st worldwide for its numbers of international staff.

Professor David Latchman, Master of Birkbeck, commented:

“I am pleased we continue to have a strong international ranking, demonstrating how we attract both students and staff from across the globe. This points to our strong reputation and profile both overseas and in the UK, as well as to the intercultural teaching environment we foster at Birkbeck.

“The quality of our teaching and research has also been recognised across a broad spectrum of subjects, which is a testament to our outstanding staff.”

The College ranked 328 overall, performing among the top third of institutions ranked globally and in the top 40 UK institutions. Published annually since 2011, the 2020 QS World Ranking ranks over 1300 universities according to a number of indicators including academic and employer reputation, citations per faculty and international students.
