Learning cafes: Free study sessions in June and July

Thinking about your future? Want to get into studying or work? Joining a free Birkbeck ‘learning cafe’ could help.

Birkbeck, University of London, is running Learning Cafes – a five-week course of free study sessions – starting in June at New City Road Primary School, Plaistow; Rebecca Cheetham Nursery and Children’s Centre, Stratford; and Morningside Children’s Centre, in Chatham Place, Hackney.

The Cafes are friendly spaces where you can try out different subjects to help you find out what really interests you. You can also think about some of the questions which might have stopped you from taking steps into learning – and have a free coffee!

The sessions include looking at how a higher education qualification can help people find a way into their chosen career, as well as an opportunity to find out about the new funding system and how to finance further study. There will also be a campus visit, and a session on helping participants identify the skills they have that they can use in HE, and what they can do to be ready to start studying.

Each session is one hour, one day a week, for five weeks and no specific qualifications are needed.  Everyone is welcome - free childcare is provided while adults are at the Learning Cafe.
