How to apply for an MPhil/PhD

First, if you haven’t already done so, write a research proposal. Guidelines for the proposal are here.

Next, complete the on-line application form and upload the supporting documents, including your research proposal. Unless your previous studies ended several years ago, it is important to provide at least one academic reference. It can take time to get this, but for now at least provide the referees’ contact details on your application form.

The PhD programme director will then do the initial evaluation of applications; promising ones will be circulated among members of the academic staff, to see if there is an appropriate supervisor available.

You may be able to move forward the process of matching your project with an appropriate supervisor, by identifying a potential supervisor yourself and discussing your application with that person. A list of the members of staff, and of their research interests, can be found here. The best method of contact is usually email.
