BETA awards 2014

We are delighted to announce that Dr Fred Dick (Psychological Sciences) and Dr Amber Jacobs (Psychosocial Studies) have been awarded Birkbeck Excellence in Teaching Awards.

We are delighted to announce that Dr Fred Dick (Psychological Sciences) and Dr Amber Jacobs (Psychosocial Studies) have been awarded Birkbeck Excellence in Teaching Awards.  The BETA scheme recognises outstanding achievements in teaching and learning for Birkbeck students. Amber and Fred will receive and award of £1,000 and a certificate which will be presented by the Master at graduation ceremonies in November 2014.

The panel was impressed by Amber's development of innovative teaching techniques and her commitment to opening up inaccessible texts by encouraging students to see films, plays and works of fiction as objects and  to literally 'get inside' them creatively. Fred's commitment to using methodologies from neuroscience and cognitive psychology to challenge students' perceptions of concepts like 'talent' as fixed and his commitment to making difficult knowledge accessible to a wide and diverse group of learners at Birkbeck also impressed the panel.

We congratulate them warmly.
