Dr Susy Menis holds an undergraduate degree in Jurisprudence from the University of Bologna and a Masters degree in Criminology from Surrey University; she also holds a Masters degree in Historical Research from Birkbeck.

Susy joined the School of Law, Birkbeck as a PhD student in 2006; since then she has taught on several law and criminology programmes and modules as an associated lecturer; she was an honorary researcher for 2017/18 as part of a research project on legal education.

Susy also teaches for the Open University; she has been a visiting lecturer at St. Mary’s University, London School of Business and Management and Essex University Online. She was an external examiner for South Devon College on behalf of Plymouth University; she is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a member of the Birkbeck Advisory Board for the Research Excellence Award.

Susy has worked with several organisations and charities such as the Prison Advice and Care Trust, Women in Prison and Prisoners’ Families and Friends’ Services. Her most recent engagement was with the Independent Monitoring Board of Prisons.
