Birkbeck College Law SocietyWelcome to one of the oldest and most active societies within the College.Why you should join the Law SocietyThe membership fee is £5 at registration which is renewable at the same amount which entitles you to get free entry to most functions we arrange throughout the entire duration of your membership / three or four year stay at Birkbeck. Included at the functions are drinks and nibbles which are mostly free to members. You can also join if you are on Access course or a postgraduate at Birkbeck - it's not just for undergraduates. The functions we arrange include guest lecturers, parties, mooting sessions and much more. By joining the Society you are enhancing your CV. Employers like to see evidence of extra curricular activities, such as involvement with societies and similar groups. In 'The Ultimate Guide to A Career in the Law' a booklet that was provided with Lex Magazine asks "Should I join the student law society?" It also states "Yes, in short. You don't have to be an active member (although it will certainly give you a head start if you are) but there simply isn't any percentage in not joining if you're thinking of a career in the law and if you don't think your's is any good, get involved and make it better."
