1.0 Policy Statement

Birkbeck College is committed to the principles of equal pay for work of equal value and therefore both current and new posts are subject to the Hay Job Evaluation Scheme to determine the appropriate grade and pay for all posts.

The College does acknowledge however, that there may be exceptional circumstances, explicitly due to market forces, where the Hay evaluated grade for the post results in an inability to successfully recruit or retain staff. In such exceptional circumstances it may be appropriate for the manager of the post(s) or proposed post(s), with guidance from their Human Resources (HR) partner, to make an application for a market supplement as defined (see section 3.1) in this policy.

1.1 Scope

The policy for payments of market supplements applies to all staff groups.
