Human Resources

Responsibilities

Every individual member of the College's community, whether Governor, student, staff, visitor is required to adhere to the College's Race Equality Policy and will be expected to apply its principles in day-to-day work and activities. So as to assist individuals to comply with the Race Equality Policy the following bodies and individuals have the following responsibilities:

The Governors have ultimate responsibility for ensuring that the College implements all Race Relations legislation and that in accordance with this, it implements, monitors and evaluates its Race Equality Policy to reflect the requirements of the RRAA 2000.  In addition, Governors are responsible, through the Nominations Committee, for ensuring that the procedure for the appointment of Co-opted Governors is carried out in accordance with the requirements of the Act.

The Master is responsible for working with the Governors and Senior Management of the College to ensure that the College's Race Equality Policy and related action plans are implemented effectively and that appropriate action is taken against individuals who do not act in accordance with the policy.

The College Secretary is responsible, through the Director of Human Resources and the Registrar, for ensuring the effective implementation of the Race Equality Policy as it affects staff and students respectively.

  1. The Human Resources and Staff Development Department, under the Director of Human Resources, in conjunction with Faculties, Schools, Administration Departments and all the relevant Committees and Panels is responsible for ensuring that procedures relating to staff recruitment, selection, career development and discipline are carried out in accordance with the Race Equality Policy. To support this, the Director of Human Resources is responsible for providing advice, guidance and support on the application of this policy and for developing a Race Equality Action Plan, in conjunction with other colleagues, to address employment issues.

  2. The Registrar in conjunction with Faculties, Schools, Administration Departments, the Students’ Union and all relevant committees is responsible for ensuring that all policies relating to the student experience are carried out in accordance with the Race Equality Policy (see context).

Every Senior and Line Manager has a responsibility to ensure that a culture is maintained and enhanced that allows equality to be an integral part of every day work and to ensure it is promoted in all activities within their respective Faculty, School or Department.  To this end managers should aim to encourage, support and enable all staff and all students to reach their full potential. In addition, managers have a responsibility to identify appropriate staff development for themselves and their staff to meet the needs of their respective areas.

Each individual member of staff and each student also has a responsibility to support the aims of this policy.
