Six fully funded MPhil/PhD Postgraduate Research Scholarships to be awarded by SSHP

The School of Social Sciences, History and Philosophy will award up to six fully funded Postgraduate Research Scholarships in 2016.

Applications are particularly encouraged in relation to the following thematic and disciplinary areas: History; Philosophy; Politics; Sociology; 'Communicating Cultures'; Gender Studies; 'Super Diversity';  'Zones of Conflict and Contestation'.

Students applying for an MPhil/PhD place in the Department of History, Classics and Archaeology are eligible to apply for these awards. Cross-departmental and cross-school applications - where the primary supervisor is based within the School of Social Sciences, History and Philosophy - are also welcomed.

The competition is primarily open to NEW Home/EU and International students who are applying for a full-time MPhil/PhD place. Applications for part-time study will also be considered, at an appropriate pro rata rate and extended duration.

The scholarship awards will include a fee waiver up to the value of the full-time home/EU rate for MPhil/PhD degrees [£4052 in 2015/6], in addition to an annual stipend set at Research Council rates [£16,057 in 2015/6]; (pro rata in the case of a part-time award).

The competition will be decided on the basis of academic merit. Scholarships will be announced in late Spring 2016, to be taken up in the 2016-17 academic year; they will be tenable for up to 3 years (subject to the holder making satisfactory performance, as assessed through the College’s regular structures for reviewing the performance of doctoral students).
