by ISMB-Mycobacteria Research Laboratory, Institute of Structural and Molecular Biology, Department of Biological Sciences

Infectious diseases have plagued mankind since ancient history. If left untreated the infection lasts indefinitely, spreading the disease. The resurgence of infectious diseases is due to the emergence of untreatable new drug-resistant germs. These global infectious diseases not only carry a direct cost to the health services through disease control; patients and their families also have to bear their social and economic impacts. In order to combat this, a concerted research effort in academia, industry and clinical practice has aimed to tackle antimicrobial drug resistance. The ISMB-Microbiology Research Unit at Birkbeck has integrated various tools, techniques and fresh ideas to reverse the tide of drug resistance in superbugs. This will be the basis of the open public workshop to discuss how to tackle the global health challenge of the hour.

All are welcome to join us over a tea/coffee!
