Bootcamp Day One: Ability is designed for students and recent graduates with a disability, neurodiverse, long term health or mental health condition but may also be of interest to those who would like to find out more about disability and careers.  You do not need to be part of the Ability Programme to attend.

We have three great sessions lined up, focussing on helping to support you in your career journey and building up your confidence when speaking with employers.

Session Details:

12pm: Adjustments and Openness Statements – be in control of the conversation. Being open about your disability with an employer can be a daunting prospect.  This workshop takes a look at why you might want to be open with an employer, how you can do that by creating an openness statement and what an employer can actually ask you about a disability.

One reason for being open about a disability is to ensure that you have adjustments in place during a recruitment process.  The workshop will also take a look at what we mean by adjustments and highlight some examples. You will also have the opportunity to think about what adjustments you might need.

3pm: Identifying Strengths - using a disability to stand out from the crowd. It is all too easy for disabled individuals to focus on what they can't do, can no longer do, or what they find difficult to do; this workshop challenges you to instead think about the unique skills and strengths that you have and particularly those that you have developed as a result of having to manage your disability.

By the end of the workshop you will have identified your skills and specifically those you have acquired as a result of managing your disability and feel confident in articulating them to an employer.

6pm: Employer session

We are excited to be joined by Hardeep Rai of Ki, Adam Tobias of The Inventum Group and Richard Ceeney from global law firm Reed Smith for a panel session.  The session will be chaired by Lucy Crittenden.
