Computer Science and Information Systems - programming taster session

When:
Venue: Online

Book your place

This interactive session aims to give you a flavour of life as a student in the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems, with an introductory talk on the Department, our courses and Birkbeck, as well as a sample programming class.

This event is an online collaborative session, hosted on our Virtual Learning Environment. You will attend an introductory talk including an outline of the programming tasks you will undertake during the session.

Whether you have previous programming experience or are new to the subject, this session will provide you with useful skills in computer science.

You will be given an overview of the Python programming language (one of the languages you will be using in your early studies with us) and we will then guide you in developing an application in this programme. Finally, the session will close with an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have about our courses and studying at Birkbeck in general.

Itinerary:

18:00-18:20 - Introduction to the Dept, courses, and the College.

18:20-19:30 - Online interactive lecture and lab.

19:30-19-45 – Live Q&A

Please sign up by 12pm on Friday 29th May.

You will be sent details for how to set up for the online interactive lab session and a link to join a few days before the event.

We look forward to seeing you at this taster event and hope that it proves to be a useful introduction to your studies here at Birkbeck.
