Olivia Ferguson

Lecturer in Romantic Studies

Olivia Ferguson is Lecturer in Romantic Studies in the Department of English, Theatre, and Creative Writing. She teaches on the BA English, BA Arts and Humanities, and MA Victorian Studies, and supervises BA final-year students and MA students working on topics in eighteenth and nineteenth century literature and visual culture.

Olivia has published research on concepts and practices of caricature, the Gothic, and gender and sexuality. She is currently working on a book with the working title Perfect Deformity: Caricature and the Novel in the Romantic Period.

In 2018-19, she was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities at the University of Edinburgh, where she developed and ran participatory arts workshops on satirical portraiture as part of the RSE Susan Manning Workshops series.
