Professional activities

Fintan is or has been a member of Irish Society for Theatre Research (ISTR), Performance Studies International (PSI), and International Federation for Theatre Research/Fédération Internationale pour la Recherche de Théâtre (IFTR/FIRT), The Theatre and Performance Research Association (TaPRA). With Dr Alyson Campbell, he is a founding member and co-convenor of IFTR/FIRT’s Queer Futures working group, and co-edited the group's first dossier of writings in Theatre Research International (2015). With Dr Aoife Monks, he co-organised and hosted ISTR's annual conference at Birkbeck in 2013: 'The Irish and the City', and organised the artist-centred symposium 'On Going On: Sustaining Life in Theatre' in 2015. In 2017, he is organising two conferences within the Centre for Contemporary Theatre: Politicians & Other Performers and Theatres of Contagion: Infectious Performance. Fintan frequently speaks at international theatre and performance events and symposia, and recently presented by invitation at the Freud Museum, University of Cambridge, The Courtauld Institute of Art, University of Surrey, University of Reading, Freie Universität Berlin, Queen Mary University of London, Queen’'s University Belfast, University College Dublin, Brunel, Dublin Theatre Festival, Project Arts Centre, LÓKAL International Theatre Festival, Reykjavik, Arcola Theatre and Synge Summer School, Wicklow. For over a decade he contributed reviews, feature articles and interviews for Irish Theatre Magazine, and is an invited Member of Project Arts Centre, Dublin. Fintan has served on the editorial board of Theatre Research International (2012-2015), and was appointed Associate Editor in 2015.
