Birkbeck Training Series

Background

Launched in 2018 by the Student Counselling Service at Birkbeck, University of London, the workshops are created by and for HE counsellors and tailored specifically to short-term work with students. Our training series from previous years have proved to be an invaluable space for meeting, sharing and learning. This year we will focus on exploring and reframing the concept of attachment working in short-term.

2023-24 Workshops

  • 2023-24 Birkbeck Training series: Reframing Attachment.
  • Training 1: Attachment Theory and Practice in short-term work by Dr Jeremy Holmes, 31 January 2024.
  • Training 2: Attachment Informed Therapy: recognising and working with patterns of insecure attachment in short-term work by Linda Cundy, 21 February 2024.
  • Training 3: Working with Attachment related Trauma in short-term work by Graham Music, 20 March 2024.

Who is this training series for?

  • Our workshops are aimed at qualified counsellors, particularly those working with students in a Higher Education setting.
  • We also welcome trainee/honorary therapists and clinicians who are interested in developing their understanding or working with a short-term model and in particular with students in H.E.

What will you get?

  • The interactive workshops will include the trainer’s presentation (slides with be shared after), Question and Answer session, and breakout group discussions.
  • You will receive a CPD certificate via email afterwards; half-day workshops will provide 3.5 hours of CPD credit and the full-day workshop will provide 6.5 hours of CPD credit.

Ticket price

  • Standard ticket price for half-day trainings: £75 per workshop
  • Standard ticket price or full-day training: £100
  • Series ticket (all 3 trainings): £220
  • Discounted tickets for trainee/honorary therapists or group booking are available upon request. 

Time

  • Trainings 1 and 3 are half-day trainings and will run from 9am-1pm with short breaks.
  • Training 2 is a full-day training and will run from 9.30am-4.30pm.

Delivery details

  • Live online workshops via MS Teams.
  • Participants need an electronic device (preferably a computer/laptop) with a microphone, webcam and reliable internet connection.
  • Joining instructions will be emailed to participants a few days before, including a guide to using the online platform/software, schedule, and slides in advance when possible.

Booking and payment

Cancellation policy

  • A refund will be given for all cancellations requested more than 30 days before the event takes place. 
  • Any cancellation made less than 30 days before the booked event takes place will not receive a refund.
  • No refund will be given for group bookings, discounted tickets or series tickets.
  • However, if you cannot attend, you can transfer your place free of charge to another person who is a counsellor/therapist if you provide their name by email at least 24 hours before the scheduled event start time; please note that in this case all further workshop materials inlcuding the CPD certificate will go to them.

  • In the unlikely event of the workshop being cancelled or postponed, we will offer a full ticket refund. However we will not be responsible for any incidental costs incurred such as time off work.
