Nicola Liscutin

Since October 2010, Nicola has been a Research Fellow. From 2002 until the integration of Japanese into the Department of Media and Cultural Studies in 2008-09, she acted as Head of the Japanese Department, setting up degree programmes such as the cutting-edge MA Japanese Cultural Studies, joint BAs in Japanese and Film/Journalism/Management as well as the Japanese language programme. Her teaching expertise lies in Japanese cultural studies, film and popular culture, contemporary literature and gender studies.

She previously held positions as senior research fellow and head of the Humanities section at the German Institute for Japanese Studies in Tokyo (DIJ); lecturer in Japanese literature at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS, University of London), guest professor in women’s studies and literature at Waseda University, Tokyo, and as a research associate in the Department of East Asian Studies at Cambridge University.
