Our dynamic team of lecturers and language teachers is dedicated to providing you with high quality teaching in all our degree and language courses and a stimulating research environment.

Alongside our taught programmes, we regularly organise special events such as film screenings, conferences, workshops, and talks by internationally renowned scholars, artists, film-makers and cultural/educational policy makers.

Our flagship MA programme in Japanese cultural studies was launched in 2003 – the first of its kind in the UK and Europe enabling students to focus on contemporary Japan and its fascinating culture. Building upon this pioneering approach, we expanded our teaching and research to include Japanese/East Asian Creative Industries Studies.

Our students
