Dual Bachelor’s Degree in International Business (BBK-SWUFE)

The Dual-bachelor degree in International Business programme between Southwestern University of Finance and Economics and Birkbeck College, University of London (hereinafter referred to as SWUFE-BBK programme) is approved by the Ministry of Education (MOE), China1.

SWUFE is a national key university under the direct administration of the MOE and is listed in "Project 211" which includes top 100 universities in China. It is most famous for its disciplines in economics and management, and is among the top 3 finance-and-economics-oriented universities for decades.

Located in central London, BBK is one of the globally excellent universities and its international business courses have been ranked among the top 100 worldwide in the QS rankings. The cooperation between SWUFE and BBK on this dual-bachelor degree programme will deepen the existing partnership between SWUFE and BBK, facilitate the internationalization of both universities, and benefit the students and faculty of both parties.

Specifically, the SWUFE-BBK programme has two major objectives:

  1. Establish a world class general education for business students, by drawing the faculty from SWUFE and BBK, and renowned scholars from around the world, to cultivate future business leaders with strong critical and creative thinking, and strong humanities foundation, with a deep understanding of western and Chinese cultures. The programme will serve as a showcase of general education to universities in China;
  2. Provide a first-class learning experience in the area of management and give students the opportunity to interact with important business and social leaders.

Admission to the SWUFE-BBK programme

Annual Enrolment: The SWUFE-BBK programme intends to admit and enroll around 50 students each year (20 from Sichuan; 5 from Chongqing; 5 from Guizhou; 5 from Henan; and 5 from Hunan).  

Admission to the programme: To join the programme a student should meet the admission criteria of both SWUFE and BBK. To be admitted to SWUFE a student should participate in, and achieve a satisfactory score from, the National College Entrance Examination for Full-Time Study in China. To be enrolled at BBK in year 4 the student must have an International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic Test) score of 6.5 or above, with not less than 6.0 in each of the sub-tests.

Degrees awarded

The SWUFE-BBK programme adopts a “3+1” cultivation mode (3 years in SWUFE and 1 year in BBK). Upon successful completion of the SWUFE delivered part of the degree and all of BBK’s requirements for the Bachelor degree programme of study, students in the programme shall be awarded a BA Management from Birkbeck College, University of London. The degree certificate is identical to that for regular BBK students in all respects. Students will also be awarded a Bachelor degree in International Business from SWUFE.

Tuition fees and expenses

The tuition fee for each student in SWUFE will be 69,000 RMB per year. Students will be studying in BBK in their fourth year and will pay full overseas programme fees for BBK (£13,000 for 2017/8. This fee is likely to increase over years).
