Assistant School Manager: Internationalisation and Partnerships

Matthew Jayes

Matthew has managed projects in the areas of, events, business development, digital interaction and communication, entrepreneurship, partnerships and internationalisation in the School of Business, Economics and Informatics at Birkbeck. Currently he is on secondment to manage internationalisation and partnerships, leading the School's international communication strategy, as well as seeking to continuously improve the student experience and retention of international students. Matthew manages relationships with current international partnerships and develops new collaborations with respected, innovative partners.

Biography

Matthew Jayes MSc, MA, BA (Hons), read Politics at University of Sheffield during which time he started a career in hospitality management for a small independent company. In 2009 Matthew was a (very tired!) 25-year-old General Manager of a stylish restaurant-bar-music venue in Coventry. A life-pivot led to Coventry University, where he advised students and companies on placement opportunities. In 2011-12 Matthew studied MA Management through work based learning, focusing on the values of leaders and the values of those they lead. He went on to study MSc Creative Industries (Management) at Birkbeck, University of London: 2014-16 and was invited to become an alumnus of the Centre for Innovation Management Research.
