Daniel and Elizabeth Peltz

The Peltz Gallery  is a flexible exhibition space for digital and material displays, small-scale performances, lectures and meetings. The space allows a constellation of research and creative activities to happen at the heart of the building.

Central to the funding of the project was a gift from Daniel and Elizabeth Peltz. Daniel completed his MA in Renaissance Studies at Birkbeck in 2009 and said, “It was incredibly inspiring to study in the company of such committed people, and the quality of the teaching was exceptional. I got so much out of my time at Birkbeck and, wherever possible, I feel it’s important for alumni to give something back.”  He and his wife were keen to fund this restoration, at the heart of the School’s redevelopment plans, revealing period features and upgrading it in a period style complementary with both the historic legacy of the building and the modern design of the nearby cinema.

Professor Hilary Fraser, Executive Dean for the School of Arts, explains, “The generosity of benefactors like Daniel and Elizabeth has made possible the transformation of 43 Gordon Square into a vibrant centre for the Arts. It has provided us with a beautifully designed space in keeping with our Bloomsbury heritage which will enable us to showcase our world-leading research in a venue of which we can feel proud.”
