History of Art academics receive Historians of British Art book accolades

Kate Retford, Professor of History of Art at Birkbeck and Honorary Research Fellow, Lucy Peltz have each earned awards from the Historians of British Art book prize committee.

Kate Retford, Professor of History of Art and Lucy Peltz, Honorary Research Fellow were both named winners by the Historians of British Art book prize committee last week.

Retford's The Conversation Piece: Making Modern Art in 18th-Century Britain was also shortlisted for the Apollo Book of the Year award in 2018, earned the prize for a single-authored book with a subject between 1600-1800. Peltz received the accolade for a single-authored book with a subject after 1800 for her publication, Facing the Text.

The winners were chosen from a nominating list of over one hundred books from more than thirty different presses. The 2019 awards for books published in 2017 are granted in four different categories, and this year’s committee of readers consisted of Morna O’Neill, Matthew Reeve, Stacey Sloboda, and Eric Stryker.
