Dr Charlotte Ashby

I am an art and design historian and my research focuses on issues of nationalism, international exchange and modern identities in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. My work ranges over art, architecture and design and my areas of interest cover Modernism in the Nordic countries and Art Nouveau worldwide.

I am currently working on a book for Bloomsbury Academic looking at international Art Nouveau and the global circulation of ideas, materials and people. More information about my research activities and publications can be found in the tabs to the left.

I have worked as a lecture at Birkbeck, University of London, the Courtauld Institute of Art, Oxford University and the V&A. My teaching and writing revolves around my research and interest in art, design and architecture as vehicles for identity and ideals.
