Two postgraduate students in the Department of History of Art and Screen Media at Birkbeck, University of London, are co-curating a radical new arts and performance exhibition beneath the streets of Shoreditch.

The Salon Mashup concept, developed by actor/director Seta White will bring together up to forty artists, performers, musicians, filmmakers and others in an exciting and varied four-day event event. This year's theme is the experience of displacement and regeneration, many from British Armenian perspectives.

The exhibition, co-curated by PhD student Vazken Khatchig Davidian and MA student Shoair Mavlian, will transform the underground maze beneath Shoreditch Town Hall into an art space. The tunnels will be used as a promenade where art and performance are ‘mashed up’ together, generating a free, raw and creative energy.

The event will take place from 31 January until 3 February. The exhibition will run during the day and the performances from 19:30 pm. You can see a full programme and ticketing information on the Armenian Institute website.

Vazken commented about the exhibition: ‘The collaborations, themselves dynamic responses to the diverse art displayed, provide varied interpretations on the theme of displacement and regeneration, at once both personal and universal.’
