Television: History and Future
This module introduces you to the key developments of the medium of television in the context of broadcasting - from radio to satellite, cable and digital transmission. The ongoing digital switchover has already brought about sea changes in the production and reception of television programmes. Case studies on the public service role of television and the aesthetics of televisual texts will address these changes. You will develop skills in the textual analysis of the televisual image in its various historical and current manifestations, including news, documentary and entertainment programmes.
