Film Noir: Cast a Long Shadow
Film Noir is an eternally popular form for film-makers and audiences alike. Yet what exactly is Film Noir? This course provides an introduction to its origins and configurations past and present. You will study examples of American Classic Noir and Neo-Noir, alongside European permutations, including selections from British, French, German and Italian cinema. Films to be examined include Double Indemnity, The Big Combo, Die Mörder sind unter uns, They Made Me a Fugitive, Quai des Orfèvres, Chinatown, Der Amerikanische Freund, LA Confidential, Blood Simple and Brick.
