Décio Villares, Alegoria da República
|
Villares was less succesful in his attempt to forge a gendered, allegorical depiction of the Republic along the lines of the French Marianne. Nonetheless, this sketch from the 1890s is interesting for its complete absence of recognisably 'Brazilian' features: the embodiment of 'the people' was a red-haired, white girl with a classical profile.
