Group therapy and working with groups

Classes

There are no classes currently available for registration.

Overview

This new short course, Group Therapy and Working with Groups, introduces you to a psychoanalytic understanding of the unconscious processes at play in group situations. We will also examine psychosocial themes, including:

  • considering how internalised social meanings and power dynamics influence the way that individuals behave within groups
  • considering the way that the group itself as a discrete entity functions.

You will explore your own experience of being a member of familial, friendship and workplace groups as a means of applying theory to experiential understanding. The theory and practice of therapeutic work with groups will be investigated, drawing out the similarities and differences between individual and group clinical practice.

This 10-hour course is designed as an introductory taster for those who have no previous knowledge or experience of group therapy.

This course is non-credit bearing, so carries no credit points.
