Please note: classes for this course run for two and a half hours from 6pm to 8.30pm.

Our German 2 short course leads to CEFR Stage B1/AS-level*. You will develop your ability to interact in German in a wide range of everyday situations.

You will learn to tackle more difficult and specialised texts and to consolidate your knowledge of basic grammatical structures. You will practise speaking, listening, reading and writing and also develop your knowledge of the German-speaking countries. Classes are interactive and taught by native or near-native speakers.

    Entry requirements

    Most of our short courses have no formal entry requirements and are open to all students.

    German 2 is one of a series of short courses we offer from beginner to advanced levels.

    You should choose this course:

    • if you have previously taken German 1 with us; or
    • if you have previously studied German and taken a qualification such as GCSE, O-level or equivalent in the language; or
    • if you believe that you may have reached level A2 according to the CEFR.*

    Once you have started the class, normally within the first two weeks, we will check that your level is appropriate for the class, and we may advise you to go up or down a class (i.e. to German 1 or German 3).

    As part of the enrolment process, you may be required to submit a copy of a suitable form of ID.

    International students who wish to come to the UK to study a short course can apply for a Visitor visa. Please note that it is not possible to obtain a Student visa to study a short course.

    How to apply

    You register directly onto the classes you would like to take. Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis - so apply early. If you wish to take more than one short course, you can select each one separately and then register onto them together via our online application portal. There is usually no formal selection process, although some modules may have prerequisites and/or other requirements, which will be specified where relevant.
