Overview

Please note: classes for this course run for two and a half hours from 6pm to 8.30pm.

This short course, French 2, leads to *CEFR B1 (Intermediate)/upper AS-level. You will learn to speak about:

  • your personality
  • how you relate to family, friends and colleagues
  • your consumer habits
  • using the internet
  • your studies and your work experience
  • your role as a citizen and environmental issues.

You will be introduced to different French artists (painters, writers and designers), the education and justice systems, the Francophone world, French history and the different French media. The course also focuses on French-language films. You will study both full-length feature films and extracts grouped thematically.

Assessment of this course is via two pieces of coursework (10%), an in-class written examination (20%), in-class written and listening comprehension (40%), in-class oral interview (20%), class participation (5%) and a portfolio (5%).

    Most of our short courses have no formal entry requirements and are open to all students.

    French 2 is one of a series of short courses we offer from beginner to advanced levels.

    You should choose this course:

    • if you have previously taken French 1 with us; or
    • if you have previously studied French and taken a qualification such as GCSE, O-level or equivalent in the language; or
    • if you believe that you may have reached level A2 according to the CEFR.*

    Once you have started the class, normally within the first two weeks, we will check that your level is appropriate for the class, and we may advise you to go up or down a class (i.e. to French 1 or French 3).

    As part of the enrolment process, you may be required to submit a copy of a suitable form of ID.

    International students who wish to come to the UK to study a short course can apply for a Visitor visa. Please note that it is not possible to obtain a Student visa to study a short course.

    You register directly onto the classes you would like to take. Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis - so apply early. If you wish to take more than one short course, you can select each one separately and then register onto them together via our online application portal. There is usually no formal selection process, although some modules may have prerequisites and/or other requirements, which will be specified where relevant.
