Introduction to Database Technology

Learn the basic principles of database design and apply them to a small business case study. Our Introduction to Database Technology short course will show you how to apply relational database technology in the workplace and is a practical introduction to basic relational database design and development.

Topics include:

  • relational database design
  • normalisation of data
  • use of the SQL query language for data definition and data manipulation
  • creating and optimising SQL queries

The course also provides a practical grounding for further study of information systems.

Prerequisites: Good IT skills, use of file compression tools like WinZip, folder and file management and web searching.

This course is currently being run online.

There may be multiple instances of the class starting at the same date and time. This allows us to offer additional places and you can enrol on any that have availability.

    Most of our short courses have no formal entry requirements and are open to all students. You may have to fulfil specific prerequisites for some intermediate-level or advanced-level courses, but these will be specified where relevant.

    As part of the enrolment process, you may be required to submit a copy of a suitable form of ID.

    International students who wish to come to the UK to study a short course can apply for a Visitor visa. Please note that it is not possible to obtain a Student visa to study a short course.

    You enrol directly onto the classes you would like to take, using the Enrol Now link below. Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis - so apply early. If you wish to take more than one short course, you can select each one separately and then enrol onto them together via our online application portal. There is usually no formal selection process, although some modules may have prerequisites and/or other requirements, which will be specified where relevant.
