School: School of Science Department: Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences Expertise: The mineralogy and petrology of kimberlite, carbonatite and ultramafic intrusions and their xenoliths; Chemical determination of inclusions in diamond and carbonado; Analysis of exotic fragments in ureilitic meteorites; Geochemical analysis of accretionary lapilli generated within pyroclastic density currents.
School: School of Science Department: Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences Expertise: Sedimentology and geomorphology: including the deposits of modern and ancient rivers, deltas, coastal sediments and deserts. Specific skills in core and outcrop logging, field work and sedimentary petrology. User of Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR), and conducted GPR surveys on every continent on Earth.
School: School of Science Department: Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences Expertise: Geochronology and thermochronology to understand continental deformation and surface topography; Erosion records; Climate over time; Tectonics; Tectonic geomorphology
School: School of Science Department: Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences Expertise: Planetary geology and geochemistry; astronomy; astrobiology; space exploration.
School: School of Science Department: Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences Expertise: Geochemistry and petrology of meteorites; Origin and evolution of igneous rocks
School: School of Science Department: Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences Expertise: Using seismology to image the Earth from global scales to individual volcanoes; works on various volcanoes around the world to understand how magma is stored and migrates before eruption; the interaction of tectonics and volcanism.
School: School of Science Department: Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences Expertise: I am interested in the low-temperature metamorphism of mudrocks and have been using illite crystallinity to categorise the low temperature metamorphism either side of the Iapetus Suture of the UK.
School: School of Science Department: Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences Expertise: Currently my work is split into the two following fields of research: Plio-Pleistocene climate in relation to early hominin evolution in Africa; Late Pleistocene and Holocene climate of the UK.
School: School of Science Department: Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences Expertise: Igneous petrology; experimental petrology; geochemistry. I am interested in magmatic systems, i.e. in interpreting the geochemistry of magma and associated igneous products in the context of planetary formation, planetary differentiation processes (the segregation of planets into their major reservoirs), and mantle and crustal processes. I use a range of analytical, experimental and modelling techniques.
School: School of Science Department: Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences Expertise: Structural geology; Earthquake geology and seismic hazards
School: School of Science Department: Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences Expertise: Biogeochemical controls on planetary habitability; Terrestrial exoplanet characterisation, atmospheric dynamics, land/ocean/atmospheric feedbacks; Biosignatures
School: School of Science Department: Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences Expertise: The evolution of sharks and rays and their ecological context, currently focused on the radiations and extinctions of sharks and rays through the Mesozoic and Paleogene and the relationships between their evolution and their palaeoecology. Development and evolution of the teeth and other tooth-like structures in sharks, rays and chimaeras and the implications for a wider understanding of the evolution of teeth within early vertebrates.
