Biography
Dr Giulia Claudia Leonelli is Lecturer in Law at Birkbeck College, University of London, and Research Fellow at the Transnational Law Institute, School of Law, King’s College London.
She was awarded a PhD in Law by King’s College London, where she was also Postdoctoral Fellow. Her PhD thesis won the Elsevier Prize for Outstanding Doctoral Work, year 2018. It has been published as a monograph in 2021 (Transnational Narratives and Regulation of GMO Risks, Hart Publishing, 2021). Dr Leonelli holds an LLM (Distinction) from King’s College London and a Laurea Magistrale from the University of Bologna.
Her current research projects lie at the intersection of trade and environmental law, with a particular focus on climate change law aspects. In the past years, she has published extensively on EU and US risk regulation, governance of biotechnologies, chemicals and pesticides, judicial review of risk regulation, and access to justice in environmental and public health matters.
Her research has been published in leading academic journals, including the World Trade Review, the Journal of World Trade, Legal Studies, the Journal of Environmental Law, the Common Market Law Review, the Yearbook of European Law, and the European Law Review. Dr Leonelli has contributed written evidence to inquiries of the House of Commons International Trade Committee and the House of Lords International Agreements Committee and is a Member of the TaPP Network.
