Biography
Before my arrival in the UK in 1993, I was Curator of Italian Paintings (1981-90), then Chief Curator of The National Museum in Warsaw (1992-93). I was appointed its Deputy Director (2009-11), and worked closely with Professor Piotr Piotrowski on the project of the radical transformation of the National Museum in Warsaw into a critical museum, during the fourteen months in 2009-2010.
I joined Birkbeck in 2000, teaching Certificate module on approaches to the discipline (Foundation in History of Art), and a range of other modules on caricature, cartoons, nineteenth-century painting in Europe and Russian art. Between 2003 and 2009, before my departure to Warsaw, I was holding post of Academic Advisor in History of Art. With Leslie Topp and Charlotte Ashby, I devised the Graduate Certificate course in History of Art and Architecture.
Since August 2022 I am holding a position of a Research Fellow at the Centre for Museum Cultures.
