Dr Prasannajit de Silva

  • Overview

After a first degree in mathematics and working for a number of years as a consulting actuary, my art history studies began with the Certificate in Higher Education from Birkbeck.  I went on to receive my MA in 2002 and my DPhil in 2007, both from the University of Sussex. My research interests relate to art of the British Empire, in particular aspects of the visual culture of the British in India in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.

I taught at the University of Sussex between 2007 and 2014, and have been an associate lecturer at Birkbeck since 2009.  I teach on courses for the BA, CertHE and Graduate Certificate programmes, largely focussing on British art of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.  My other current roles include lecturing for the WEA and the Arts Society.
