Master of Birkbeck elected to board of Universities UK

Professor David Latchman, Master of Birkbeck, has been elected as a board member of Universities UK

Professor David Latchman, Master of Birkbeck, has been elected by fellow heads of universities as a board member of Universities UK – the definitive voice for all universities in the UK. He will join the high-profile 24-member board for a three-year term of office at a critical time for the UK’s universities.

UUK – an organisation with 134 members – supports and promotes the strength and success of UK universities nationally and internationally. Its ongoing campaigns include highlighting the importance of international students to the UK, the changes to student finance, and the civic role of universities.

Professor Latchman said: “I am delighted to have been elected to the UUK Board, and look forward to contributing to its crucial work. UUK’s leadership has been, and remains, vital for universities, especially as the sector adapts to significant changes and challenging times.”

The board is UUK’s main decision-making body and meets five times a year. Professor Latchman’s term of office will begin in August 2013.
